Stuart Gitlin, MSW, ABD has been in social work higher education for over a decade as Director of Admissions at New York University Shirley Ehrenkrantz School of Social Work. Prior to that appointment, he spent over thirty years in practice in medical and psychiatric hospitals and community mental health settings. Much of his clinical work has focused on work with adolescents and families where he was very involved in community outreach as well as direct practice activities. His expertise led to frequent presentations to parents' groups at public libraries, Parent Teacher Associations, community forums, and authorship of a newspaper column. Through various organizational affiliations, Mr. Gitlin has maintained a consistent involvement in social work research as well. He was past co-chair of a Practice Research Committee in a large teaching hospital. He conducted research focusing on aftercare and presented at psychiatric grand rounds. He also established the first BSW Training Unit and was Assistant Coordinator of Training for the field-based seminar for Master's students at Long Island Jewish - Hillside Hospital Medical Center. Currently, Mr. Gitlin is a member of the Advisory Committees for the BSW Programs at Lehman and Siena Colleges. He previously taught Social Science Research and Social Welfare Policy at New York University, Ehrenkrantz School of Social Work and he is now teaching Social Welfare Policy (SOW 313) at Iona College.
