Field Practicum

Some information on the field practicum...

From the onset of social work education one hundred years ago, field placements have been considered an integral part of professional social work education. As such, field practica experiences are acknowledged as a hallmark of social work education. Explicitly designed as an educational experience, the Council on Social Work Education Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS) include the expectation that planful, closely supervised practica are provided. These practica provide students with the opportunity to engage in supervised, generalist social work practice utilizing the knowledge, skills, values and ethical standards acquired in the professional foundation courses. Concurrent classroom courses facilitate the integration of theoretical material and practical application by promoting reciprocity between classroom and field learning.

All social work majors complete two practica over two years (100 hours in junior year and 400 hours in senior year).
