The Center for Social Research
The Iona College Center for Social Research is a multi-disciplinary institute established by the Departments of Social Work and Sociology.  We are located in the Social Work Department on campus.

Purpose:

The Center for Social Research was established to actualize the College's mission through service to Iona and the local community.

Our purpose is threefold:

1) To represent Iona College as a center of academic learning and research.

2) To bring Iona College and the community together in an effort to better understand the nature of local issues.

3) To provide students and faculty with research opportunities as they apply to issues of community concern.

Services:

The Center conducts a variety of research projects and can provide a range of services and research techniques including the following:

  • telephone surveys
  • mail surveys
  • needs assessment
  • program evaluation
  • focus groups
  • qualitative studies
  • outcomes assessment
  • data collection and analysis
  • seminars and workshops on social issues

Fees:

The Center for Social Research is a non-profit organization. Any fees charged for projects represent actual costs for services rendered.

Research Capability:
  • Annual Westchester public opinion survey with over 600 respondents
  • Needs assessment studies related to services such as childcare, recreation, health care
  • Political polls
  • Evaluation of social programs such as prenatal care programs, day treatment programs, dropout prevention programs
  • FAocus groups related to client satisfaction, community resources, etc.
  • Secondary analyses of existing data
  • In-depth interviews to assess community services
  • Studies designed to meet specific criteria for your organization
  • Multi-faceted community assessments

Faculty Associates:

Dr. Meryl Nadel, Department of Social Work, directs the Center.  Faculty members from a number of departments are available for projects, depending upon the expertise required by each study.
