Social Work Department Courses Offered

Admission to the major

The following criteria have been established for admission to the social work major:

  1. Prospective majors complete an admissions interview with the chair of the Social Work Department.
  2. Students planning to enter the major should have a GPA of at least 2.3 with at least 45 credits.
  3. Students submit a brief personal statement related to their interest in the social work major.
  4. Students submit a letter of reference on the departmental form to be provided.

Although students may complete some courses in the major prior to official acceptance, such acceptance to the program occurs only after departmental faculty have reviewed students' applications by September of their junior year. Provisional admission for one semester may be offered to students not meeting all formal requirements.

Applicants will receive written notification acknowledging their acceptance into the Social Work Program. The Chairperson will meet with students who are accepted provisionally or not accepted to discuss alternative courses of study at Iona College.
