Name: Chimuka Cheepa
Major: Physics/Math
Hometown: Livingstone, Zambia
High School: Hillcrest National Technical High
Future Plans: After graduating from Iona, I hope to continue with school. My first choice is to go to medical school and graduate school to study medicine and biomedical engineering. However, if this does not work out due to circumstances beyond my control, I will go on to study mechanical and aerospace engineering. I am fascinated by both fields but I am determined to follow the first path.
Being a Martin Scholar at Iona has given me an amazing academic experience which I would most likely never have experienced elsewhere. The scholarship I get as Martin scholar makes it possible for me not to worry about paying my tuition fees and as a result, I get to have ample time to go to the library and read as many Science/Math books as I please. This opportunity has built and continues to build my knowledge of Science and Mathematics at a rate I would never have imagined and I owe this to my being a Martin Scholar at Iona. Without the Martin Scholarship, I would have had to spend part of my time working to raise money to pay part of my tuition fees and this would reduce on the number of books I read.

I love being a Martin Scholar because his generosity has made it possible for me to attend a great school, and receive a college education which is so valuable and important. Being a Martin scholar has also provided me with the support and encouragement to not only pursue my studies in science, but also to be involved in research as well as plan for a career in science in the future. Being a Martin Scholar has given me the opportunity to reach my full potential and I am grateful for this opportunity.

High School: Guilderland Highschool
Future Plans: I am planning on going to graduate school to get my PhD in either Nano Science or Chemistry.
I love being a Martin Scholar because it has given me the opportunity to do many things that I am not sure would normally be possible. With Dr. Martin's generosity I was able to study at Oxford University and take a course in Nano Science. This opportunity opened a whole new option of a future for me, I had not learned about Nano Science until then and it is truly interesting.
Name: Nousin Sanzida Haque
Major: Biochemistry
Academic Year: junior
Hometown: Bronx, NY
High School: Stuyvesant High School
Future Plans: This next semester, I will be taking classes in Iona and hopefully completing my math minor. I will be also researching in Dr. Lee for my Honors Senior Thesis Project. I hope to also get some more clinic hours in this semester. Starting late next semester, I think I will begin to looking at medical schools. I am also applying for internships over the summer in the Northeast region and hope to get accepted.
Why I love being a Martin scholar? Besides all the wonderful things that Dr. Martin does for us? Because it is one less thing to worry about. I like knowing that I don't have to worry about financing my education. I dont have to take time out for working to earn money; instead I can use that time to gain more experience in internships, hospitals and research.
Additionally, it helps to know that Dr. Martin does care about us-he wants our input from our experience. As he told me once, I am a consumer for this college. I was really impressed that he listened to our comments on Iona last spring and used all of it to make changes. Being a Martin Scholar means that your voice really does get heard in Iona.
