Faculty Highlights


Gene Wolfson, Education, was awarded a faculty travel grant to present at the Nassau Reading Council Conference, on Long Island, on March 23rd. He will be taking 2 students to co-present with him.

Dorothy Leone presented in San Diego at the American Speech Language Hearing Association's annual convention in November and at the annual Higher Education Pedagogy Conference a few weeks ago in Virginia.

Catherine O'Callaghan and Paul Beaudin attended the AACTE/NCATE conference February 15 - February 18.

In mid-January, Dr. Sunghee Lee delivered a lecture to the Research and Development team at Pepsico in Purchase NY. As a result of her work, Dr Lee and her students were invited back to work in Pepsico's research laboratory.

Dr. Tricia Mulligan is CELTICs 2011-2012 Presidential Teaching Scholar. Her project entitled “Internationalizing the Curriculum” is designed to create a model for faculty across the disciplines who are interested in internationalizing the curriculum in their respective classrooms. » Read more.

History professor Michael Hughes publishes a new book, Forging Napoleon's Grande Armée: Motivation, Military Culture, and Masculinity in the French Army, 1800-1808 with New York University Press. » Read the press release.

Teresa D'Aversa, Biology, had her manuscript, "Myelin basic protein induces inflammatory mediators from primary human endothelial cells and blood-brain-barrier disruption: implications for the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis", accepted for publication in the journal Neuropathology and Applied Neurobiology.

Sr. Kathleen Deignan, Religious Studies, is named president of the International Thomas Merton Society. » Read the announcement.

Professor Patricia Cohen was recently awarded the 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Dance Educators Organization. We have an outstanding faculty team of active artist educators in the Fine and Performing Arts Department. There bios are on the FPA website and most of our adjuncts have been with us for many years.

Dr. George Bournoutian's book “A Concise History of the Armenian People,” has just been published in Turkish by Aras Publishers in Istanbul. The book which contains 464 pages of text, several maps, photos, and time tables, made its debut at the annual Istanbul International Book Fair (Nov 18-Dec 1). » Read the press release.

The same book has also just been published in Arabic by the Egyptian Lebanese Publishing House in Cairo. The book comes in 478 pages including maps and photos, and made its debut at the 43rd Cairo International Book Fair which opened on 24th January 2012. » Read the press release.
In November, Associate Professor Penelope Moore spoke to seniors at the NE Jewish Center in Yonkers. She was contacted through the Speaker Bureau directory and gave an excellent presentation on "Active Aging: Ways of Optimizing Good Health."
