Message from the Dean

Welcome back to the Fall semester.

I hope you enjoyed the summer and had the opportunity to spend some time with family and friends. Some of you may have simply enjoyed the chance to immerse yourself in research, writing, and other professional activities. I hope upon returning, you will be refreshed, excited, and ready to participate in furthering Iona's goals for academic excellence and intellectual inquiry.

"Food for Thought": Faculty Lunch Series

The Dean's Office and CELTIC are pleased to sponsor a faculty lunch series in September, October and November.

The series will begin September 7 in the Hegarty, Hynes Athletics Center from Noon to 1:00 p.m.

Our first speaker in the newly revitalized symposium is Dr. Catherine Stratton from the History department. She will be discussing her recent research on black communities of colonial Manhattan.

Iona College is launching a new Environmental Studies undergraduate degree this fall in response to student interest, burgeoning faculty research and teaching in this area. This unique program includes three major concentrations: politics and policy; religious studies; and ecological and environmental literacy.

IN MEMORIAM


Alice Tobin Branagan, 1909-2012


Alice Branagan, Assistant Professor of Music at Iona College, died this summer at the age of 102. Professor Branagan began her career at Iona in 1959 and continued to teach until her retirement as a Professor Emeritus in 1979.

A memorial mass and celebration of her life will take place on September 8 at 11 a.m. at Chapel of the Holy Family in the castle at the College of New Rochelle.
