Town Hall Meeting – Faculty

President Joseph E. Nyre invites all faculty to join him for a Town Hall Discussion to share reflections on the summer and forthcoming academic year. The conversation will include an update on the implementation of the strategic plan, the size of the freshman class, and other topics.

"Food for Thought": Faculty Lunch Series


The Dean's Office and CELTIC are pleased to sponsor a faculty lunch series in September, October and November.

Invited faculty or visiting scholars will give brief talks followed by a lively exchange among colleagues. Topics may include anything applcable to education and scholarly life, from ethics and aesthetics, to media and the craft of writing. The series in intended to foster interdisciplinary discussion and engagement between faculty from a range of specialities, and to enrich the intellectual life of our campus community.

The series will begin September 7 in the Hegarty, Hynes Athletics Center from Noon to 1:00 p.m. Lunch will be served.

Our first speaker in the newly revitalized symposium is Dr. Catherine Stratton from the History department. Dr. Stratton will be discussing her recent research on black communities of colonial Manhattan entitled "Reconstructing the Black Communities of Colonial Manhattan: A Challange in Historical Geography."

ISI Event: Merton and Heschel - Partners in Prayer, Peace and Interfaith Dialogue


7:30pm, Thomas J. Burke Lounge, Spellman Hall

Merton's extant correspondence with Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel from December 1960 - December 1966 offers a brief window into kindred spirits who were deeply committed to prayer, to the efforts of peace, and to the interfaith dialogue. As both mystics and social activists, Merton and Heschel were challenged to integrate spirituality and the quest for social justice.

The International Conference of Thomas Paine Studies


Iona College will host a gathering of national and international scholars for presentations and discussion on the life, legacy and ideas of a long neglected Founding Father of the United States, Thomas Paine.

In addition to 34 papers delivered in twelve sessions of scholarly presentations, the conference will also feature a keynote speech by Lewis Lapham, a presentation of the play, Citizen Paine, as well as receptions at the Thomas Paine National Historical Association Building and the Thomas Paine Cottage.

The conference is open to scholars, students and the general public.
