Iona College is pleased to welcome Ms. Barbara Davis, City Historian of New Rochelle & Community Relations Coordinator for the New Rochelle Public Library, to celebrate student scholarly achievement at Iona College's 4th Annual Undergraduate Research Day.
Barbara Davis has been actively involved in her adopted community of New Rochelle for over 30 years, having moved here in 1979 from Vermont, where began her varied career as a teacher. Since 2004 she has served as Community Relations Coordinator for the New Rochelle Public Library. Her key responsibilities involve the design, management and publicity of the library's 2,000+ programs, exhibits, classes and services.
Barbara is also the co-president of the New Rochelle Council of Community Services, an umbrella organization for 36 of New Rochelle's non-profits, institutions and agencies. She was on the planning team for the Communities For All Ages initiative, and has been a member of numerous boards and committees in New Rochelle and Westchester County.
Taking on the duties of City Historian in 2001, Barbara promotes the extraordinary history of the great city by conducting numerous presentations and tours for schools and organizations and responding to over a thousand formal history inquiries a year. She has authored two pictorial history books about New Rochelle remarkable past, both were released by Arcadia Publishing. She was the director of New Rochelle's Tricentennial in 1988 and is the co-deputy chair of the 325th anniversary, which is being celebrated this year.
