The accounting major qualifies graduates for entry-level positions in management, public and government/nonprofit accounting. The following major courses must be completed achieving a minimum major index of 2.0: ACC 305, ACC 310, ACC 315, ACC 405, ACC 410, ACC 411, ACC 413 and ACC 420. Students planning to qualify for the CPA Exam under the 150-credit requirement must complete IDS 300 as a liberal arts elective and BEC 325 as a business elective. See the information below for the MBA Program in Public Accounting. To start the accounting major students must achieve an average grade of 2.5 (C+) in BUS 201 and BUS 202 with no grade of D in either course. Students may repeat a course or courses to meet this requirement. To continue in the major students must achieve an average grade of 2.0 (C) in all junior/300-level accounting courses.
To minor in accounting business students must complete 12 credits in accounting. Students in BA or BS programs must also complete the abbreviated business core. The required accounting courses are ACC 305, ACC 315, ACC 405 and either ACC 310 or ACC 410.
MBA in General Accounting
The MBA Degree in General Accounting is a broad based study of accounting and business available for graduates of non-accounting business and liberal arts and science undergraduate programs. Iona undergraduates may apply for up to 24 credits of MBA Program core course waivers.
The required accounting courses are ACC 615, ACC 620, ACC 625 and ACC 630.
MBA in Public Accounting
The MBA Degree in Public Accounting combined with the accounting undergraduate degree is a licensure-qualifying 150-credit program which allows graduates admission to the CPA Exam in New York beginning August 2009. Iona undergraduates may apply for up to 24 credits of MBA Program core course waivers.
The required accounting courses are ACC 650, ACC 655, ACC 660 and ACC 665. Additional requirements include FIN 620 and IS 621.
Advanced Certificate Programs in Accounting
Advanced certificate programs are offered in General Accounting and Public Accounting. The General Accounting Certificate requires the following courses: ACC 615, ACC 620, ACC 625, ACC 630 and an elective. The Public Accounting Certificate requires the following courses: ACC 650, ACC 655, ACC 660, ACC 665 and an elective.
