BBA Management Major

Objective

The Department of Management offers a major in management which is concerned with the achievement of the goals of an organization, either a business or a not-for-profit entity, and the goals of the people within the organization. Management includes the functions of planning, organization, motivation and control which are directed toward solving problems involving finance, human relations and production.

The program in management is designed to prepare students for careers in the management of public and private sector organizations. To that end it presents students with a systematic body of knowledge to enable them to acquire an understanding of how formal organizations are structured and to appreciate the significance of informal structures within organizations. The program maintains a balance of theory and experiential learning to develop the thinking, traits, knowledge and skills essential to career success and leadership in any business. Special emphasis is given to interpersonal and decision-making skills.

Course Requirements
All college core requirements (54 credits) and liberal arts electives (6 credits), the general business core (36 credits) and business electives (6 credits), plus the seven following major courses (21 credits):

MNG 315 - Collective Bargaining
MNG 321 - Organizational Behavior
MNG 350 - Human Resource Management
MNG 414 - International Business Management
MNG 425 - Managerial Decision Making
and two MNG Electives

Internships
The Department conducts an internship program in a select group of organizations in which students are expected to take part in projects and organizational decision making situations. Each semester invitations are extended to a limited number of students selected from among those who have demonstrated high academic achievement.

Minor Concentration
BBA candidates wishing to minor in management must complete twelve (12) credits in management. Candidates for the BA and the BS must also complete twelve credits in management as well as the abbreviated business core.
