Minor Programs Offered By The Hagan School of Business

The Hagan School of Business offers minors in the following areas:

Business Minor (only available to BA or BS students)

The Hagan School of Business offers a minor concentration in business to students pursuing a BA or BS degree. The business minor consists of an abbreviated business core and a concentration in one of the major areas of business: accounting, finance, management, information systems, international business, and marketing.

The business minor is offered to students in the School of Arts and Science by the faculty of the Hagan School of Business in conjunction with the Department of Economics and Mathematics.

Abbreviated Business Core:

  • 9-11 credits in Arts and Science composed of:

Mathematics (6 credits)

  • MTH 133 – Finite Mathematics (3 cr.) And MTH 134 – Brief Calculus (3 cr.)
    OR
  • MTH 231 - Calculus I (4 cr.) And MTH 232 – Calculus II (4 cr.)

Economics (3 credits)

  • ECO 201 – Microeconomics (3 cr.) OR ECO 202 – Macroeconomics (3 cr.)

24 credits in Business composed of:

Accounting (6 credits)

  • BUS 101 – Principles of Financial Accounting (3 cr.)
    And
  • BUS 202 – Principles of Managerial Accounting (3 cr.)

Business Environment (3 credits)

  • BUS 130 – Legal Environment of Business (3 cr.)
    OR
  • BUS 410 – The Role of Business in Contemporary Society (3 cr.)

Principles Course (3 credits):

  • BUS 300 – Management Info Systems (3 cr.); OR
  • BUS310 – Principles of Management (3 cr.); OR
  • BUS 330 – Principles of Finance (3 cr.); OR
  • BUS 340 – Principles of Marketing (3 cr.)

Minor Concentration

In addition to the above Principles course (3 credits), the student must complete 12 credits or four courses in a minor concentration. These courses should be chosen from the requirements of one of the majors in the Hagan School of Business. Due attention must be paid to prerequisites for these courses. Liberal arts and science students may not take more than 27 credits in business.

Accounting Minor

BBA candidates wishing to complete a minor in Accounting must complete 12 credits in Accounting. Candidates in a BA or BS program must also complete 12 credits in Accounting, as well as the abbreviated business core.

Required Courses:

  • ACC 203 – Accounting Theory and Application I (3 cr.)
  • ACC 315 – Cost Measurement and Analysis (3 cr.)
  • ACC 405 – Federal Income Taxation I (3 cr.)

And one of the following:

  • ACC 204 - Accounting Theory and Application II (3 cr.)
    OR
  • ACC 410 – Federal Income Taxation II (3 cr.)

Finance Minor
BBA candidates wishing to complete a minor in Finance must complete 12 credits in finance. Candidates in a BA or BS program must also complete 12 credits in finance, as well as the abbreviated business core.

Information Systems Minor

BBA candidates wishing to complete a minor in IS must complete 12 credits in IS. Candidates in a BA or BS program must also complete 12 credits in IS, as well as the abbreviated business core.

International Business Minor

BBA candidates wishing to complete a minor in International Business must complete 12 credits in International Business (BEC 325 and 3 additional courses from at least two disciplines). Candidates in a BA or BS program must also complete 12 credits in International Business, as well as the abbreviated business core.

Management Minor

BBA candidates wishing to complete a minor in Management must complete 12 credits in Management. Candidates in a BA or BS program must also complete 12 credits in Management, as well as the abbreviated business core.

Marketing Minor

BBA candidates wishing to complete a minor in Marketing must complete 12 credits in Marketing. Candidates in a BA or BS program must also complete 12 credits in Marketing, as well as the abbreviated business core.
