Personal Statement

I recently joined Royal Bank of Canada's Capital Markets division in New York as an assistant sales trader. I got this opportunity through the generosity of a member of Iona's board of trustees, Mr. Robert J. Grubert. As an international student securing a job in these difficult economic times was a herculean task but Iona's strong alumni network helped me obtain a good start to my career. I am still in the process of learning the job but it has been a wonderful ride till now. I am licensed as a registered representative, allowing me to interact with clients, and am currently engaged in getting my license to be able to trade equities in the US financial markets. I apply everything I learned at Iona on a daily basis. The honors program curriculum allows me to apply lessons learnt in completely non-financial classes. This helps me see a certain situation from very different perspectives, a critical component in this business. Utilizing every challenge and opportunity that Iona threw at me allowed me to reach where I am today and I strongly suggest everyone going through this program should do the same. I was rewarded significantly for all my efforts at Iona and I hope to give back as much as possible to my alma mater.
