Michael J. Hughes is a professor in the history department where he specializes in the history of modern Europe and military history. He received a BA in history from Trenton State College, which has been renamed the College of New Jersey, a MA from Temple University, and a PhD from the University of Illinois. His research focuses on the French army in the Revolutionary and Napoleonic era, and he is currently writing a book on the armies of Napoleon, which will be published by New York University Press and is scheduled to appear in 2012. In his own work, he is particularly interested in military motivation and the relationship between war, culture, and gender. He currently teaches HUM 202 in the Honors program.
