Dr. Cleary began his adventures in English Literature at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, where he earned a BA with Honours. Crossing the border under cover of night, he later earned his MA & Ph.D in English Literature at New York University. He specializes in eighteenth-century British and American literature, as well as poetry and poetics, and has published articles on Alexander Pope, Christopher Smart, and Benjamin Franklin. Much to the chagrin of students in those classes, he teaches HON 101 & HON 102.
