How to Apply to the College Assistance Program
If you are already a student of Iona College then the first step of the application process will be to contact the College Assistance Program Office either in person, by stopping by Amend Hall room 204, which is our office, by calling (914) 633-2159 or by emailing CapInformation@iona.edu. We will review what the requirements of the program are and answer any questions you have about the services we offer. Students who are applying to Iona College as well as CAP need to apply to both the College and the program separately but simultaneously. Families should submit a college application as per the directions and deadlines given by the Admissions Department. While families are completing that portion of the process they can also begin applying to CAP. Students who are interested in applying for the program can start the process by completing a CAP application, recommendations, and by sending documentation of your learning disability or attention deficit disorder. Documentation should include an IEP from high school, if you have one, and the most recent psychoeducational report you have. This report should include achievement information, such as the results of standard testing for reading, writing and mathematics skills, and cognitive aptitude information, such as scores from an IQ test like the WISC or the WAIS. All information should be sent directly to the College Assistance Program care of the Director to the following address: Once CAP has this information it will be reviewed to determine if we think you would be a good match for the program. Following this, you, along with a parent or guardian, need to complete an interview with the director and assistant director of the program. The interview is used to fully describe the program to the student and guardian, get additional background information from the student and fully understand the student’s needs. Once the interview is complete CAP will let the student know very quickly if he or she has been accepted into the program. CAP typically admits students into the program at the beginning of either the Fall or Spring semesters if we have space available. CAP can only serve a total of 85 students during any given semester, so we often have only limited space available. Should a student be interested, but there is no space available, we will put students on a waiting list until a space opens up for them. While on the waiting list students can receive advisement and mentoring services. For the Brochure: |
