Health/Medical Benefits

All full-time employees are eligible to enroll in the group medical plan with Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield on the first of the month after date of hire. Iona College pays 80% of the premium and the employee is responsible for 20% through pre-tax payroll deductions.

Empire BCBS PPO

You may call Blue Cross at 1-800-377-5156 or access the Blue Cross website to check on particular benefits or claims. Blue Cross forms can also be accessed through the site, including:

  • Prescription Drug Formulary
  • Authorization for Release of Information
  • Medicare Supplement Third Party Designation
  • Prescription Drug Claim Form
  • Health Insurance Claim Form
  • Student Coverage Questionnaire
  • COB Form

Once you log into the Empire Blue Cross website, you will be brought to the 'welcome' page. On the lower right hand side of the welcome page, click on "Request Plan Doc" in the drop down box labeled "Where would you like to go?"

HIP© Health Insurance

The HIP© HMO offers a less expensive alternative to the Empire BlueCross BlueShield© PPO plan. HIP© is the largest HMO currently operating in New York City, with physician services and hospital locations in Westchester, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Benefits under the HIP© HMO plan must be received in-network in order to be covered.

You may contact HIP at 1-800-HIP-TALK or access their website at www.hipusa.com to:

  • Find a participating physician, practitioner, or pharmacy location
  • Change your primary care physician
  • Request ID cards
  • Check member status and benefits
  • Inquire about claims
  • Read HIP news and announcements
  • Learn about available wellness programs, services, and health related discounts
