To apply for State, Federal, and/or Iona College Institutional aid you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 15. Incoming Freshmen must also complete the FAFSA by April 15. When funds are limited, students who filed by the deadline will be considered first. Incoming Spring students must have completed the FAFSA by October 15 of the prior year.
Please note that if you have been awarded an Iona College scholarship or grant, you must complete the FAFSA every year by our deadline even if you are not applying for any other form of aid.

The Renewal Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) - (For students who filed the year prior).
Approximately one-third of all financial aid applicants are selected by the U.S. Department of Education to verify the accuracy of information provided on the FAFSA. If you have been selected for verification, your offer of financial aid is tentative, pending the completion of the verification process. If you are a returning student, you will not receive a financial aid award email until the verification process is complete. A verification hold will be placed on any student who has been selected for verification until the documentation requirements have been met.
You will be required to complete the verification worksheet and provide a copy of yours and your parents federal income tax returns. Upon receipt of the required materials, we will finalize the review of your application for financial aid. If documentation is not received by the established deadline, your offer of financial aid will be cancelled.
Should the verified financial information differ significantly from the original information provided on the FAFSA, your aid may have to be adjusted. Please be sure to respond to requests for follow-up documentation in a timely manner to avoid delays in applying your financial aid as a credit to your student account.
To determine if you are selected for verification and are required to submit this documentation, please review your Student Aid Report (SAR). In the upper right hand corner, you will see your EFC. If there is an asterisk (*) next to the EFC number, then you have been selected for verification by the Federal Government. For any student selected for verification, there is also a paragraph in the SAR that explains you have been selected for verification. The SAR will be sent to you after you have completed your FAFSA.
The required verification documentation must be submitted to the SFS Office within 2 weeks of notification by our office. Failure to submit the required documentation will result in cancellation of all Federal aid. Students will receive an email indicating their aid has changed and a bill will also be sent reflecting the new balance due to Iona College.
Beginning in fall 2010, Iona College will begin to participate in the William D. Ford Direct Loan program. Student and parent borrowers will receive funding for their federal student loans directly from the U.S. Department of Education rather from private banks and other lending institutions as they do now through the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP).
Therefore all Federal Direct Stafford loan borrowers will need to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN).
New borrowers are also required to complete a Stafford Entrance Counseling Session on-line
If you are a returning student and have borrowed Stafford loans in the past, you should accept your Stafford award online through your Iona College Peoplesoft account - Instructions on how to accept your awards on-line.
Your parent must apply online to complete the credit application and Master Promissory Note (MPN). Additionally, the Federal Direct PLUS Loan Supplemental Application must be completed and returned to the Student Financial Service Office before a loan can be processed, if approved.
