International Admissions - Conditional Acceptance Policy

Conditional Acceptance Policy

Iona College offers a conditional acceptance to international applicants (undergraduate or graduate) who have met the academic standards for admittance, but who need to improve in the area of English language proficiency.

The international students who are eligible for this acceptance offer are in the following categories:

  1. Have taken a TOEFL test but not earned a score at or above 80 IBT.
  2. Have taken a TOEFL test but not earned a score at or above 213 CBT.
  3. Have taken a IELTS test but not earned a score at or above 6.5.
  4. Have not completed ELS level 112.
  5. Have not taken any language tests.

Iona College will begin offering an intensive English program in the fall of 2013.  Thus, an applicant seeking conditional admission must choose to complete his English language courses at Iona College.  A placement test will be administered just prior to the beginning of each term.  Based on the result of this test, each student will be placed in appropriate English coursework, to be monitored by the Director of Iona’s ESL program.  At the completion of the term, a decision will be made as to whether a student may begin his or her academic program.

Some international applications may be able to take degree courses while they work on their English language course work.  These cases are considered on an individual basis.
