Alumni Awards

Each year at the Reunion Weekend Gala, awards are presented to alumni who have distinguished themselves through accomplishments and endeavors that reflect the mission of the College and recall the charisma of Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice and the Congregation of Christian Brothers.

Brother William B. Cornelia Founder's Award for Outstanding Service to Iona College

The Brother William B. Cornelia Founder's Award for Outstanding Service to Iona College is named for the founding president of Iona and was inaugurated in 1961. Bestowal of this award is intended to show the Association's appreciation for those who have generously given of their time, resources and energies for the betterment of the College.

Brother Patrick B. Doyle Award for Distinguished Service to the Alumni Association

The Brother Patrick B. Doyle Award for Distinguished Service to the Alumni Association was instituted in 1968 in memory of one of the founding faculty members of Iona. Brother Doyle was revered as a classical scholar, a naturalist and a spiritual father to all Ionians of his era.

Brother John G. Driscoll Award for Heroic Humanitarian Service

The Brother John G. Driscoll Award for Heroic Humanitarian Service recognizes members of the Iona community who, by their activities and service to others, have reinforced Iona's identity as a College founded by the Congregation of Christian Brothers and in the tradition of American Catholic higher education. This award, established in 1995 by the Iona College Alumni Association, is named in honor of Brother Driscoll, the sixth president of the College, who by his example imbued all with a spirit of scholarship, vision and humanitarian service.

Brother Arthur A. Loftus Award for Outstanding Achievement

The Brother Arthur A. Loftus Award for Outstanding Achievement recognizes and honors Ionians who have brought acclaim to the College by brilliant accomplishments in their chosen careers. This award, dating back to 1965, perpetuates the memory of Iona's second president, Brother Loftus, who was also on the original faculty of the College. 2008 recipients are:

The evaluation process takes several months of individual and collective efforts by the members of the Alumni Board's Internal Affairs Committee. Selection of the award recipients is done by a committee vote after consideration of all available information on the nominees. Ratification of the proposals of the committee is by the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association.
