Iona Senior Wins Film Festival Award

The New York International Independent Film and Video Festival awarded Iona College senior Elizabeth Young its Best Student Film award in the short film genre. Life’s What’s Happening When You’re Making Other Plans is a 10-minute autobiographical film that chronicles Young’s experience as the victim of a car accident when she was younger—and the lifelong consequences she faced as a result of the traumatic brain injury she sustained.

“I submitted the film in January 2007, and I found out I won in the spring. I was in disbelief,” she said. The award reception took place last November. After graduation, Young, a Speech Communication major, hopes to pursue a career writing and directing films. “I would love to make a feature-length film,” she said.
