Q: I just uploaded a file to Blackboard and when I try to access it, I get an error message. How do I avoid these error messages?

Use the following criteria as guidelines for files you upload from your computer to Blackboard to ensure the files can be accessed:

• Filenames should be less than 30 characters.
• Filenames should not contain the following characters: c omma, ampersand, asterisk, dollar, exclamation point, percent symbol, pound symbol or other unusual characters.
• Filenames should include the file type extension. Some common extensions are:
  • .doc for Microsoft Word documents
  • .pdf for most scanned readings in Adobe portable document format (PDF)
  • .ppt for MS PowerPoint files
  • .txt for plain text files
  • .xls for MS Excel file
