I am, Too American

This shows the optimism and the faith even in the end. He is proud to be an American but he is more proud to be black. All he wants is to be accepted by the white man. The narrator keeps on thinking about the when he will be considered equal. He is American in writing, but not in the eyes of the mainstream society.
