The Invisible Man speaks descending into the depths. In this sentence
the Invisible Man again refers to The Inferno. In his work Dante
descends into hell, which are spiral and chaotic in nature. This
prepares the reader for the future chapters of Invisible Man. The
Invisible Man’s first twenty years are also spirals in which the protagonist
inevitably falls into a situation of chaos.
