The Invisible Man invokes the allusion of Dante Alighieri author of The
Inferno. In choosing to describe himself like Dante the Invisible
Man links their experiences. Like Dante, The Invisible
Man writes of his descent into darkness, just as Dante writes of his descent
into the recesses of hell. The Invisible Man through his descent
illuminates the injustice of man, which is reminiscent of Dante’s revelatory
glimpses into the hypocrisy of man.
