Dichotomy
Here the reader
is informed that light is truth and it is light that illuminates the Invisible
Man. It is ironic, however, because he first discovers himself in
utter darkness. The dichotomy is revealed in the Invisible
Man’s claim that he finds truth in light, yet he also sees, “the darkness
of lightness.” The Invisible Man believes that he has found the truth
and in that enlightenment he can see that there is an element of darkness
in the truth. The light illuminates the two together, the truth and
the darkness.
