EASTERN ECONOMIC ASSOCIATION
INFORMATION FOR SESSION ORGANIZERS
Thank you for your interest in organizing a session for the annual meetings
of the Eastern Economic Association. The following information should
be everything needed, but if questions arise or if you require further
assistance, please contact the Association's Executive Director, Dr. Mary
H. Lesser at (914) 633-2088 or by e-mail at mlesser@iona.edu.
General Information
Sessions at the EEA meetings cover the full range of topics in economics.
The meetings begin at 9:00am Friday morning and end at 12:30pm on Sunday.
Session times are 9:00 am, 11:00am, 2:00pm and 4:00pm (there are only morning
sessions on Sunday). The 9:00am and 2:00pm sessions last for 90 minutes
and the 11:00am and 4:00pm sessions last for 100 minutes.
Sessions generally consist of three (possibly four) papers. Typically,
each paper has a discussant, and there is a session chair. Some sessions
are organized as panel discussions, in which case there may be several
presenters and no set discussants, or one general respondent to a variety
of presentations. Organizers therefore have some flexibility in the
design of their sessions.
Fees
There are no paper submission fees for papers that are part of organized
sessions. However, each participant (including discussants, co-authors,
and chairs) attending the meetings is expected to pay the appropriate conference
registration fee. Some people have found this confusing, thinking
that there are no fees, or that since they have been "invited" to participate
there will not be a fee. Session organizers are therefore asked to
be sure that all of their participants are aware of the requirement that
they register, the amount of the registration fee, and the deadline by
which payment is due. Organizers will also be asked to intervene
in cases where their participants do not pay.
Please see the "Fees" section of the webpage for more details about fee amounts.
How to Propose an Organized Session
Proposed sessions should be submitted to the Executive Director of the
EEA by the published deadline (see below). Session organizers must
provide the following information about their sessions (following the format
below is helpful for that is how the session will be listed in the conference
program). It is most helpful if the information can be sent in an
e-mail message or as an attached Word document (PLEASE...NO FORMATTING!!).
Title of session
Name and affiliation of organizer
Name and affiliation of chair (if different than organizer)
Title of paper
Name(s) and affiliation(s) of author(s)
<repeat for all papers in session>
Names and affiliations of discussants, listed in order of the papers
they will discuss
In addition, contact information must be provided for each participant
(name, address, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail if available).
It is also helpful to inform the Executive Director of any scheduling
constraints or preferences as soon as they are known (for example, if your
participants cannot be at the conference on the Friday, or the Sunday,
or prefer the morning or afternoon, etc.).
The Process
Proposed sessions should be submitted to the EEA Executive Director by
the published deadline (see below). The sessions will be reviewed
by the Program Committee and participants will be reminded about registration
fees and deadlines by the EEA office (it is helpful if session organizers
make participants aware of both fees and deadlines in their initial communications).
After the Program Committee meeting a schedule of sessions will be developed
and made available on this web site. Changes in titles, participants,
etc. can be made up until the program goes to print. Later changes
will be published on a separate sheet provided with the printed program
at the conference. Both the printed program and web site program
will include e-mail addresses of those presenting papers. Authors
are also invited to supply information as to whether or not (and where)
their papers appear on their web sites so that they can be linked to the
EEA program web site.
Forms
Participants in organized sessions who are presenting a paper should complete
and return this form
along with payment. Those participants who are not presenting papers
but are serving as session chairs or discussants may use the alternative
form. (Any participant who is both presenting a paper and also
serving as a discussant or chair need only complete and return the first
form refered to above.)
Deadlines for the 2008 Conference
