Message From Our President

Over the past few years the Iona College Chemical Society has grown tremendously, becoming a recognizable organization around the Iona College Campus and nationally by the American Chemical Society. We have received numerous achievement awards from our College and From the ACS, thanks to the efforts of our past presidents Loreta Geneviciute and Aileen Hilario, and other executive board members who have tirelessly worked to spread the fun and exciting power of chemistry around our community. I am looking forward to recruiting new active members and expanding our scope, not only to the science family, but to the entire Iona community. On behalf of the e-board I'd like to express a couple of the goals on our minds for this upcoming semester. We want to create and co-sponsor events that engage students from all across campus.

We also wish to strengthen the relationship among the current members and welcome the incoming freshmen into our family. To do this, we wish to change the way meetings are conducted and begin the semester by building friendships.

As for events, we have a few things in mind. We definitely plan on attending the National Chemistry Week celebration at the New York Hall of Science for the second time, after our success from the celebration this year. Along with many colleges and universities in the state, we will be having a demonstration for kids of all ages from different schools. We strongly encourage anybody to help out and attend. Let's show them how much fun Chemistry truly is!

We also plan to continue our community work at Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, peforming Chemistry deomonstrations to the chemistry club present at their school. I urge anyone who is interested to contact me if they would like to participate.

The American Chemical Society recognizes student affiliate chapters that are effective in showing the true light of chemistry and how it plays a role in our daily lives. They also strive for affiliate chapters to get involved with young students and show them how fun and interesting chemistry may be hoping that they will consider it as a major of study when they do venture to college. It is the Iona Chemical society’s mission to unite sciences students with the transforming power of chemistry, hoping that the club will feel more like a family, where younger undergraduate students can look up to juniors or senior science majors for advice and help on how to succeed and be less stressful.
