NCAA Compliance

• Recruiting is any solicitation of a prospect or a prospects relatives [or legal guardian(s)] by an institutional staff member or by a representative of the institution’s athletics interests for the purpose of securing the prospect’s enrollment and ultimate participation in the institutions intercollegiate athletics program. [Bylaw 13.02.1]
• Prospective Student-Athlete is a student who has started classes for the ninth grade year and remains a prospect until:
  1. The individual officially registers and enrolls in a full time program of studies and attends classes in any at a four-year institution
  2. The individual participates in a regular squad practice or competition at a four-year institution that occurs before the beginning of any term

• Representatives of Athletics Interests (Booster) is an individual, independent agency, corporate entity, or other organization who is known by a ember institution’s executive or athletics administration to:
  1. have participated in or to be a member of an agency or organization promoting the institution’s intercollegiate athletics program
  2. Have made a financial contributions to the athletics department or athletics booster organization of that institution
  3. Be assisting or to have been requested to assist in the recruitment of prospects
  4. Be assisting or to have assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families
  5. Have been involved otherwise in promoting the institutions athletics program
  * Once identified as a "rep" you are one for life *
• Permissible Recruiter
  • Only Iona College Coaches who have passed the NCAA Recruiting Rules Test may recruit prospective student athletes for that sport.
  • NO recruiting contacts can be made by a representative of athletic interest (includes letters, phone calls, face to face contact, e-mail, etc)
  • You may forward all information on a prospect to appropriate coaches
  • You may continue to maintain friendships developed previously in regard to prospective student athletes (no providing extra benefits to them)
