The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) is now in its twelfth year of coordinating the MAAC Gives Back community outreach program. The program’s intent is to give back to the communities by motivating and exciting children about MAAC Basketball. We are happy to announce that Fidelis Care is on board as our title sponsor for this program!
With the vision and guidance of Fidelis Care, the program is expanding this year. The program consists of two parts: a writing campaign and Fidelis Care MAAC Gives Back Week. The writing campaign pairs all of the MAAC women’s and men’s basketball teams with elementary schools in the Albany area. The second part of this program involves Fidelis Care MAAC Gives Back Week, which consists of classroom visits by local MAAC student-athletes. Student-athletes will have the opportunity to spend time with local elementary school students each semester. These visits allow the students to come face-to-face will outstanding role models, and the student-athletes to spread their message of stay in school, eat right, exercise, and have fun with sports!
This year Iona College had members From the Women’s Basketball and Track teams took time on February 17th to speak with the students at elementary school P.S. 127 in the Bronx. The athletes spoke to the students about the importance of an education and keeping active in sports. MAAC gives back is a wonderful program that Iona College is proud to be apart of.
