IONA ROWING - GLEN ISLAND PARK CLEANUP
|
|
On Saturday, October 16, 2004 members of the Iona men’s
and women’s rowing team participated in a clean up of Glen Island.
Glen Island, home to Iona’s rowing teams, is a 105-acre park located
along the Long Island Sound. The clean up was coordinated in conjunction
with the American Littoral Society. Volunteers were split into groups of
two or three in their efforts to not simply “pick up trash”,
but to more importantly aid in the research of pollution in this area.
Every piece of trash was counted and recorded individually on data cards.
The recorded information will be closely analyzed and used to help create
research studies to support legislation against pollution in our area.
The clean up was a success, providing the teams with valuable information
about beach clean ups and a new found respective for Glen Island. For more
information on the America Littoral Society you can visit their website
