Iona also recognizes the importance of the physical dimension within higher education and its greater need for expanded Athletic Facilities, particularly as the residential population increases. Our student athletes and non-athletes must have appropriate venues for an array of physical activities. Spaces for varsity athletic practices, intramural activities, instructional programming, club sports, and informal student recreation will be created.
Combining the new facility with the existing Mulcahy structure, the Hynes Athletics Center is now one of the largest athletic complexes in the Northeast. Improvements in the facility properly represents Iona College and its exceptional athletics program.
The Hynes Athletics Center includes:
an open atrium lobby and vestibule;
multi-purpose courts;
multi-purpose center for dance, aerobics and receptions;
designated free-weight center;
cardiovascular center for training;
work room for intramural sports and activities;
state-of-the-art rowing tank;
fifteen new and expanded offices for coaches, staff, officials and
administrators;
locker rooms for “wet” sports (i.e.: crew, water polo,
swimming);
conference room;
security facilities; and
vending and snack bar area.
