NEW!! Undergraduate Medical Records and Coding Certificate Program --Starting Summer 2006
The Department of Health Care Programs will be introducing its new Undergraduate Medical Records and Coding Certificate Program starting Summer 2006. The Certificate consists of 7, 4 credit classes (undergraduate level) held weekends and evenings on a trimester basis, and includes a 120 hour practicum/internship in a medical records setting.
The seven classes comprising the Certificate are:
1. NSC2400:Principles of Anatomy and Physiology
2. HCA1102:Medical Terminology and Pharmacology
3. HCA1103:ICD-9-CM Coding Classification System I (ICD-9 Coding for Hospitals)
4. HCA1104:CPT Coding Classification System II (CPT Coding for Physicians' Offices)
5. HCA1101:Health Care Systems
6. HCA4500:Health Care Information Systems
7. HCA4900:Practicum in Health Administration(120 hours)
The Certificate has been designed in accordance with American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) coding certificate standards. Upon completion of the certificate, the student may choose to sit for AHIMA's Certified Coding Assistant (CCA) designation. All credits completed under this program are fully transferrable to the Bachelors of Professional Studies iin Health Administration degree at Iona College.

Long-Term and Post-Acute Care Administration
The certificate program provides exposure to the broad spectrum of long term and post-acute care health delivery systems that extend from sub-acute units, nursing facilities, home care, assisted living arrangements, and the various models of continuing care retirement communities.
The program will enhance the skills and training of those responsible for management decisions in all environments in which long term and post-acute care services are rendered. It is designed to meet the academic component for nursing home administrator licensure in New York State.
All course work in the Certificate Program in Long-Term and Acute-Care Administration is creditable and transferable to the MS in Health Services Administrations degree. The master's and post master's programs in Health Services Administration are intended to educate, refine and train health care professionals and those who wish or need to expand their knowledge and understanding of this rapidly developing industry. The programs implement innovative, theoretical frameworks and practical applications to provide students with the skills necessary to excel in the health care industry.

Post Master's Certificate in Health Services Administration
The certificate program will provide an opportunity for an introduction to Health Services Administration to those professionals who hold a master's or doctoral degree from an accredited institution. It is designed to enhance the skills and training of those responsible for management decisions in cliniucal and managed care environments.
