Each year, a Presidential Teaching Scholar will be named, selected from among the most accomplished teachers on the faculty. The Faculty Advisory Committee will seek nominations for the PTSA and make recommendations to the Provost for approval. The intention of the award is to benefit the Iona community as a whole as well as the faculty member named Presidential Teaching Scholar.

Eligibility:

1. This program is open to all full-time teaching faculty members at Iona College. Adjunct and non-teaching faculty members are not eligible.
2. All applicants must be prepared to submit an interim report on their project by October 31, 2012.
3. All applicants must be prepared to submit a final report on their project by March 31, 2013.

Criteria:

The Presidential Teaching Scholar will be awarded a stipend of $3000 per semester, for one academic year, for a total of $6000.

1. Nominations can be made by colleagues, chairs, administrators, or by faculty members themselves (self-nomination).
2. Those nominated must submit a proposal detailing the specific research and activities that will occur during the year of the award. Applicants should indicate in their proposals how their research and activities build on their previous accomplishments.
3. The research undertaken should result in enhanced teaching effectiveness and improved student learning, and it should focus on pedagogy rather than disciplinary scholarship. The proposal should also include a plan for specific activities (e.g., public talks, workshops, and participation in ongoing activities related to teaching effectiveness) to be implemented during the year of the award.
4. A final report must be submitted to document that the goals established in the proposal have been met. This report will be published on the Iona College CELTIC web site. In addition, a public presentation must be made at the end of the award year or the beginning of the following year to disseminate the results of the research.

The Presidential Teaching Scholar will be honored at a Faculty Teaching Scholar Reception where she/he will be asked to briefly present her/his project results. An announcement of the award with the recipient's photo will be submitted to Inside Iona
