You can use the Wimba software in Blackboard to record a lecture for students to view.
Blackboard
Add Wimba where ever you want in Blackboard (for example in the Content folder in the menu, or create a folder called Recordings or something).
go into Content (or folder you choose)
- Click Add Interactive Tool (blue button)
- Click Wimba Classroom
- Click Create Room
- Give it a name (ignore most options, but probably check off "Automatically Open New Archives" which means when you create a recording, students can see it immediately)
- Submit (probably have to click Submit on two more screens as well)
- A link to this Wimba "room" will now be on the page in Blackboard
- Click that link
- Click the Enter Room button
Wimba Setup
Go through Setup Wizard
The "room" should open after you finish the wizard
If you want to upload a Powerpoint, look for the small upload icon (to the right of "Default Content Folder" dropdown) and click it:
- Upload your Powerpoint (Choose you File, and click Import)
- Give it a minute to convert
- You should see each slide down the right side of the window
Click each slide name for it to display
Important: Under Options (on toolbar in middle of screen) choose "Lock Talk"
- The TALK button should become orange and as you talk you should see green/yellow/red bar rising with your voice - this assures you it is hearing what you say
- If this does not work, try choosing the mic under Audio Inputs (also under Options); or restart your computer and try again
- If you want to also record video (webcam) click the camera icon on the toolbar, and click the first icon "eye" to show video
Begin Recording
Once you are ready to begin recording, click the circle to the left of "Archive" (top right of screen)
- It will tell you that recording has begun, and it will light up red
- Click on name of first slide, and then begin talking about the first slide, and then continue clicking on each slide name and talking
Once finished click the same Archive button to stop recording
- Click Exit to close window
Make Recording Available
If you did not check off "Automatically Open New Archives" in room options, Go back to where you put the link to Wimba in Blackboard
- At the bottom you will now see your recording
- If you want, click the Settings pencil icon to change the name of the recording
- Important: The button under ACCESS must be green for students to view recording, click it to turn it red which means students cannot view it
Finally, tell your students how to access the recording - tell them where it is in your Blackboard course
- They have two options to watch, either click the title of the recording, or click the MP4 red button to download the recording
