SYMANTEC ANTIVIRUS

HOW DO I UPDATE MY ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE?

· Click start, All Programs, Symantec Client Security, Click on Symantec Antivirus
· Click the tab LiveUpdate, keep clicking Next till done then click Finish
· The computer may ask you to restart at this time, close all other applications and click OK to restart the computer

I THINK MY COMPUTER HAS A VIRUS, HOW DO I CHECK?
(update before you run if you feel you have a virus)

The yellow shield icon (bottom right of screen by the time) indicates that your computer is being monitored by Symantec Antivirus. If for any reason you think you may have a virus:

· Click on start, All Programs, Symantec Client Security, click on Symantec Antivirus
· Click Scan Computer (on left), check all of the boxes next to the drives that you want to scan (check “Local Disk (C:)” and your U Drive if you’d like)
· Click Scan (the scan time will vary depending on the number of files being scanned, please be patient)
· Each time Symantec Antivirus finds a virus make sure to note if it was deleted or quarantined
· If it was deleted don’t worry about it
· If it was quarantined you must delete from the computer
· From the main Symantec Antivirus screen click View tab, then Quarantine tab
· Highlight the first item, hold down the shift button and click the last item (all the items should be highlighted at this time)
· Click the RED X to delete all the selection, when the next window pops up click Start Delete
· When the delete is finished exit out of Symantec Antivirus

WINDOWS

HOW DO I UPDATE MY WINDOWS SOFTWARE?
(this should be done once a month)

· Click start, All Programs, Windows Update(on top left)
· Click Express Install (Recommended)
· Click Install… and read all license agreements and click I Accept
· When the installs are finished you may be prompted to restart, so close all applications and click OK to restart your computer

SPYBOT

HOW DO I UPDATE SPYBOT? (run at least once a week)

· Click start, All Programs, Spybot – Search & Destroy, Spybot – Search & Destroy
· Click on Update (on left)
· Click on Search for Updates (on top)
· If there are no new updates click OK
· If there are updates right click on the first item and then Select All
· Click on the tab Download Updates
· Spybot will disappear and then reappear, run Spybot at this time (see instructions below)

HOW DO I RUN SPYBOT AND HOW OFTEN?
(update before you run once a week)

· Click start, All Programs, Spybot – Search & Destroy, and select Spybot – Search & Destroy
· Click on the tab Check for problems
· When the scan is done make sure that all the boxes of the items found are checked then click on Fix Selected Problems
· It may take some time for a System Restore point to be created, be patient
· Click on Yes to continue removing the selected items (if any boxes pop-up click on OK)
· Click OK when the confirmation box appears (verify that the number of problems fixed is the number of problems detected, if not run Spybot again)
· Close out Spybot

AD-AWARE

HOW DO I UPDATE AD-AWARE?

· Click start, All Programs, Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal, and select Ad-Aware SE Personal
· Click “Check for updates now” located at the bottom right of this screen
· Click Connect
· If there are no newer updates click OK, then Finish
· If there are new updates click OK to accept the new file and then click Finish when it is done

HOW DO I RUN AD-AWARE? (update before you run once a week)

· Click start, All Programs, Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal, and select Ad-Aware SE Personal
· Click Start, then click Next
· When the scan is finished click Next
· Right-click on the first item’s box and then click-on “Select all objects”
· Click Next then OK
· When the computer is done deleting the items close the program
