Iona College Financial Aid Information

The Process

Funding options available for Iona graduate students are College-based scholarships or loans. You are urged to begin the financial aid application process at least six weeks prior to the start of the term for which aid is sought.

  1. Apply for admission to the College as a matriculated student.
  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online within 30 days from the date of admittance to the college. Ongoing, your FAFSA must be filed by April 15 of every year in order to retain your scholarship. Failure to submit your official FAFSA by the required deadline will result in the loss of any scholarship. Our FAFSA school code is 00273.
  3. If selected for a process known as Verification, submit all requested documents to Student Financial Services in a timely manner.*
  4. Respond to the financial aid award notification as instructed, and complete the process for obtaining a student loan (see below.)
  5. Complete the Entrance Interview online and Master Promissory Note. Our federal school code for loans is 002737.
  6. The federal student loan servicing center will notify our office upon successful completion of your entrance interview and MPN. We will then certify your enrollment and eligibility and process your loans.
  7. Funds will be disbursed directly to Iona College and you will be notified when these funds have been applied to your account.

Funding options

Iona College Awards: A variety of Iona-funded opportunities are available. Click here for a complete list of scholarship funding options.

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans: Eligibility is determined after we receive your FAFSA data. These loans are guaranteed by the federal government and the maximum annual loan amount is $20,500 and the interest rate is 6.8%. Repayment of principal and interest can be deferred while in school, however, we strongly encourage students to make interest payments if at all possible while enrolled. Eligibility to defer repayments requires enrollment for at least six credits per term.

Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan: The Grad PLUS loan allows you to cover your entire education costs minus financial aid already awarded. The interest rate is 7.9%. Grad PLUS can be an affordable alternative to using savings, income, or private loans for education costs. Students must meet the federal aid eligibility citizenship criterion, must file a FAFSA, and have a satisfactory credit history. Repayment of principal and interest can be deferred while in school, however, we strongly encourage students to make interest payments if at all possible while enrolled. Eligibility to defer repayments requires enrollment for at least six credits per term.

Veterans' Benefits: Veterans or their eligible dependents under the terms of Title 38, U.S. Code are required to submit the certifying official claim form for G.I. Bill benefits. This form must be submitted every term.

Persian Gulf Veterans Awards: Tuition awards up to $1,000 per semester for full time students and $500 per semester for part-time students who served in the US Armed Forces in the Persian Gulf from August 2, 1990 to November 30, 1995.

Vietnam Veterans Awards: Tuition awards up to $1,000 per semester for full time students and $500 per semester for part-time students who served in the US Armed Forces in Indochina anytime from December 22, 1961 to May 7, 1975.

* If selected for verification, submit an IRS transcript of your most recent federal income tax return to Student Financial Services. You must also complete the Independent Verification Worksheet. To determine if you are selected for verification and are required to submit this documentation, please review your Student Aid Report (SAR) -- which you will receive after completing the FAFSA -- for instructions. In the upper right hand corner, you will see your Expected Family Contribution (EFC.) If there is an asterisk (*) next to the EFC number, then you have been selected for verification by the federal processor.
