How do I ...
use the electronic databases and journals from home?

It's easy! When you click on the link to a restricted database or journal, you will be asked to enter your network ID (everything before the @ symbol in your Iona email address) and your password. For more help and problems, see the Off-Campus Access webpage.

use My Research in the ORION book/multimedia catalog?

My Research allows you to save records for future use or to create a bibliography. On a search result list select the checkboxes next to all records you want to save and click the Save To My Research button in the Record Options box at the bottom of the screen. Then log into your account and your records will be saved for future use. My Research is always available from the link at the top of the catalog.

cite online/electronic articles for my paper?

renew books online?

From the Books & Multimedia Research webpage, click on Your Account. Enter your Iona barcode (back of ID card) or Student ID (front of ID card) & your last name. You can also call the Ryan Help Desk - (914) 633-2343.

pay a fine for an overdue book?

The late fine is $.05 per day. The charge for any lost or damaged item is its current replacement costs (a minimum of $40), $10.00 for processing, plus any late fines accrued. You can check your fines using Your Account on the Books & Multimedia Research webpage. You can pay at any Circulation Desk.

find out which journals the Library owns?

Check the list of Journal Titles, found on the library's Find Articles & E-Resources page. It contains a listing of over 12,000 journals in electronic and print format.

reserve a laptop?

Ask at the Ryan Main Circulation Desk. Five wireless Internet laptops are available for in-library use, for three hours increments. You must have your Iona ID and a second picture ID.

get a book or article Iona doesn't have?

Fill out an Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery request. These online forms (also available in print at the Reference Desk) can be found on the Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery Library Services webpage.

You can also search catalogs from other regional and national libraries through various links on the Books & Multimedia Research webpage.

use print journals?

In Ryan, the most recent journal issues (the last year) are in the Reference Room. Older journal volumes are in the Periodicals Room (to the right and behind the Circulation Desk). They are in alphabetical order. Journals articles can be read or photocopied in the library but cannot be checked out.

If the journal you need is in Arrigoni, fill out an article request form at the Main Desk in Arrigoni. If a journal is on microform, please ask at the Help Desk for more information.

print from the computers in the Library? How much does it cost?

Printing from computers is free. Please remember to Think Before You Print!

make a photocopy?

Photocopies are $0.10 per copy. Machines accept coins (some dollar bills), or purchase a $2 copy card from the machine in the back of the Reference Room in Ryan. Change machines are also available in Ryan. Photocopiers are located in the back of the Reference Room abd the entrance of the Periodicals Room. There is also one photocopier in the Arrigoni Library.

get access to other academic libraries in the area?

request a search for a book that the ORION catalog says is available on the shelf, but I cannot find?

Ask for help at the Help Desk. A search forms can be filled out, and you will be notified if the item is found.

get a book or article on Reserve for a specific class?

From the Books & Multimedia Research webpage, click on Course Reserves to find what your professor has on reserve and where it is located. Your professor decides if the item can be checked out and for what period of time. Ask for the Reserve item at the Help Desk of the library indicated in the ORION Course Reserves record.

get in depth help beginning research for a paper?

You may always ask for help at the Reference Desk, but you can also set up a RAP (Research Assistance Program) appointment to meet one-to-one with a Reference Librarian to discuss research strategies and resources specific to your assignment. You can fill out the online form.
