Using keywords to search the library catalog

We looked at author searching and title searching first because they are fairly straightforward ways to search the catalog. Now you're going to take what you learned in Chapter 1 about preparing to search, and what you learned in Chapter 3 about searching using computers, and you're going to learn how to search a real database using keywords and search connectors.

The good news is: all the little tricks we discussed in Chapter 3 work in the library catalog, and that includes:

using search connectors (and, or)
using parentheses

As an example let's use one of the searches we looked at in Chapter 3.

women and (islam or muslim)

If your "Keyword Advanced" search finds some matches in the catalog, you will see a brief record list of the records that matched your search. For this search, the computer found 70 matching items.
