In this chapter, we're going to discuss the most common information sources and what research tools you can use to search them.

Objectives of this chapter

After completing this chapter, you should be able to:

• list and define the three characteristics of information sources discussed in this chapter: currency, coverage and authority
• list the three basic types of research tools introduced in this chapter: the online catalog, periodical indexes and web search tools
• be able to match each type of tool with the type of information that it covers
