Follow the Research Process

Brainstorm topic and find keywords:

• Ask a Librarian or visit the reference desk
• Search the Web with Google or browse academic website subject directories
• Encyclopedia Britannica Online
• Use subject specific Reference Books
• Quick searches in ORION and electronic databases

Choose types of information:

• Currency of information
• Specificity of subject matter
• Scholarly or general interest
• Format and type

Search techniques:

• Read a description of the database or publication
• Use a database's Subject Index or Thesaurus to discover the best terminology
• See search help to get focused results
• Determine how the information is organized into citations, fields, and abstracts

Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery:

• Request books or articles not available at Iona

Evaluate your information for:

• Authority
• Accuracy
• Objectivity
• Currency
• Coverage

Organize and write your paper:

• Citing Sources: MLA, APA, Online...
