Heritage Week to Celebrate the Legacy of Edmund Rice
Heritage Week opens with an evening liturgy Sunday, April 6, and offers the Iona community many chances during the week to explore the week’s theme: “Edmund Rice, A Man of Ireland – A Man for the World.”

Sunday, April 6
Opening Liturgy
7:00 pm – Arrigoni

Mr. Jerry Brooker, Edmundian, will offer a reflection on the charism and mission of the founder, Blessed Edmund Rice. Jerry will speak from his own personal experiences as an Edmundian of the Congregation of Christian Brothers.

Monday, April 7
Lecture: “The Educational Philosophy of Blessed Edmund Rice”

Noon – Faculty Reception Room
Br. Harry Dunkak, CFC, professor emeritus, will speak about Blessed Edmund Rice’s educational philosophy.

Campus Ministry Appreciation Dinner
5:00 pm – Spellman

Br. Kevin Cawley, CFC will talk about the work of Edmund Rice International.

Tuesday, April 8
Hands Around Iona
Noon – Mazzella Field

Stand in solidarity with the children of Africa by joining hands and hearts around Mazzella Field. Donations made to the Christian Brothers will go to help children in Zambia, Africa.

Fidelis Operarius Awards
2:00 pm – Spellman Lounge

By invitation only. This coffee and cake reception recognizes employees who have accrued 10 years of service to Iona College as they receive their Fidelus Operarius pin. Click here for the list of Fidelus Operarius employees.

Lecture: Catholic Intellectual Tradition
5:00 pm – Faculty Reception Room, Spellman Hall

Moral theologian Susan Abraham, PhD, of Harvard University will lecture about “Liberating Wisdom: the Catholic Intellectual Tradition and Education for Transformation. Dinner will be served. RSVP to Mission Integration, ext. 2045.

Wednesday April 9
Loftus Dinner
5:00 pm – Davenport Club, New Rochelle

By invitation only. Honorees include those employees receiving the Pro Operis Award for 20 years of service, the Bene Merenti for 30 years of service, and the Pro Multis Annis for 40 years of service to Iona College. Br. Alfred Banda, CFC, from Zambia, will accept an award on behalf of all Christian Brothers ministering worldwide.

See how your donations help. Br. Alfred Banda, CFC will share before and after pictures of work in Zambia, Africa; Teresa Delgado, PhD, Religious Studies will update all on the AIDS situation in Africa. Iona students will share their concerns about the unrest in Kenya.
