Ard Berge, a skilled portraitist, playfully and sardonically populates his canvases with a great American bison, an African peddler on the moon, a fairground on a desolate landscape, an Apache hero engulfed in the stars and stripes, and the White House on a camouflaged lawn.

Women's History Month Production: Wendy Wasserstein's Third

This play dramatizes the conflict between an English professor and the student she has accused of plagiarism. A post-performance discussion on the issues addressed in the play will follow the performance. The entire Iona Community is encouraged to attend.

Dance Concert: Magbana Drum & Dance NYC

Magbana Drum & Dance NYC is a multicultural performance group of percussionists and dancers, who will demonstrate how traditional Guinean drum rhythms and dance interrelate. This high-energy performance will describe the cultural contexts in which music and dance co-exist. Magbana's performance fuses world percussion with traditional African drum and dance rhythms, martial arts and contemporary dance.
$5 suggested donation.

Join the Iona College parade contingent and march up 5th Avenue in NYC or in Pearl River in Rockland County (New York's second largest St. Patrick's Day parade). For more information call ext. 2390.
 
LAMPcafe Outreach
Malissa Scheuring-Leipold, PhD, Education, invites students and faculty to serve the less fortunate through the LAMPcafe - a mobile canteen street outreach - sponsored by LAMP Ministries, a Catholic lay missionary association. It brings simple food to the homeless on the streets of the Bronx. The LAMPcafe serves on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 10:30 am -1:00 pm and Saturday from 10:15 am - 12:30 pm. Volunteers are specifically needed on the first, third and fifth Saturday of every month. Contact Dr. Scheuring-Leipold at ext. 2553 if you are interested or would like to serve by donating snack foods or sandwiches.


CELTIC Workshops
CELTIC is offering new hands-on workshops for faculty throughout the spring semester in Ryan Library's new Technology Classroom 201. Topics include: Test Drive Wimba; Faronics Insight Lab Control; APA and MLA Style Changes; What's New in Blackboard and iTunes U at Iona College. Visit the CELTIC site for more information.

Instruction Class
Would you like your students to know how to find quality information for research assignments and be more aware of library resources and services? Schedule a library instruction class! Classes may be taught for any discipline, undergraduate or graduate. Librarians will work with you to plan a class relevant to your students needs. Classes may be taught in the library or elsewhere at New Rochelle and Rockland campuses. Learning in Retirement at Iona College (LIRIC) Offering Courses
LIRIC offers courses and social activities for people of retirement age. LIRIC meets Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at the Elks Lodge, 19 The Boulevard, New Rochelle. Employee Information

Thank You for donating to Books to Soldiers
Ryan Library and CELTIC would like to thank everyone who donated to the Books to Soldiers book drive. Over 300 books were donated by the Iona Community, family and friends. These books will help bolster the morale of our troops overseas, helping to alleviate boredom, relieve loneliness and reduce stress. Thank you for remembering those brave men and women who put their lives on the line for us each and every day.

Mileage Reimbursement Rate Change
The IRS has lowered the standard mileage reimbursement rate for the business use of personal automobiles to .50 cents per mile. The new rate became effective January 1. Please use this new rate going forward on travel expense reports for which mileage reimbursement is being requested.

Adjustment to Employee Coffee Plan
Coffee, tea and cold fountain beverages will still be available free of charge at the LaPenta Snack Bar and in the Vitanza Commons for all employees, however the number of beverages permitted each day will be limited to four. The adjustment became effective Monday, February 1.

Flu Vaccinations
It's not too late to get vaccinated against the seasonal and H1N1 flu. Make an appointment today with Student Health Services at ext. 2548.

Special Presentations during Commencement
All faculty and administrators who have children graduating from Iona in May have the opportunity to present these students their diplomas during the 2010 Commencement ceremony at Madison Square Garden. If you have a child that will march in the 2010 Commencement ceremony, please notify Tresmaine Grimes, PhD, AVP for Academic Affairs, by April 23. Please include the graduate's name, school, degree, and the name of the presenter in an e-mail and send to tgrimes@iona.edu.

Commencement: Time Change
The time for the Commencement ceremonies at WaMu Theater at Madison Square Garden has been changed to 11:00 am on Sunday, May 16.

All faculty, administrators and staff members participating in the Commencement ceremonies must order academic regalia online at www.jostens.com/college. The deadline for ordering is March 7.  

Professional Activities

Teresa Delgado, PhD, Religious Studies, participated in a Sexual Health Scholars Program webinar panel discussion on the subject of "Sexuality, Culture and Religion", as part of an online course for medical students sponsored by the American Medical Student Association on January 26. Click here for more information.

Frank A. Salamone, PhD, Sociology, presented a paper, "His Eyes Were Watching Her: The Relationship between Franz Boas and Zora Neale Hurston", at the Zora Festival in Eatonville, FL. The paper examined Hurston's significance for anthropology and the manner in which she used anthropology in her fiction. Boas, in turn, sought to diversify anthropology, battling the established white male power structure in the profession.
