Women's Studies Program

Monday, March 1 marks the beginning of Women's History Month. Chaired by Cathryn Lavery, PhD, Criminal Justice, the calendar of events features a rich array of programs under the theme of Women as Advocates and Survivors. Several highlights of the month include a production of Herstory by Key Arts Productions, a keynote address by Amy Paulin, New York State Assembly - 88th District, Opening Gallery Exhibition of "Family Matters," a screening of Missing followed by a Q and A with journalist Charles Horman's widow, Joyce Horman and actor John Shea, a production of Third a play by Wendy Wasserstein with post performance discussion, Student's Scholars Conference, and a live performance by Vicci Martinez (Outstanding Folk / Country Song 2009), and so much more.

There will be a series of lectures and a dramatic presentation featuring the importance of advocacy and ways to stop violence against women. The role of women and men as advocates for peace will be featured, along with the men of Iona faculty discussing What Feminism Means to Me. All are encouraged to bring a class or friend to as many lectures, panel discussions, and performances as possible.
