Faculty Display Art to Iona Community

The walls of the Brother Kenneth Chapman Gallery are currently filled with the 2009 Faculty Exhibition featuring works by Iona faculty Stanley Lapa, Sheila Kriemelman, Ryan Seslow, Robin Tedesco and Br. Kenneth Chapman.

At the Meet the Artists Gallery Tour on Thursday, October 22, students and guests met with Professor Stanley Lapa and Br. Chapman. The two artists gave insight into their world of art, and the source of their inspiration.

Br. Chapman described the inspiration for his three-dimensional, acrylic pieces as coming from "prayer, meditation, and reading scripture," but explained that it could come from anywhere. "The next time you look at something; don't just identify it. Look at it. You will be amazed at what you see."

Colorful pastels turned Lapa's double exposed photographs into works of art. After taking a picture with a camera, Lapa double exposes the image and interprets the photo using pastels. "My hand has a mind of its own," Lapa said of how he works.

The collections of all five faculty artists are being shown in the Br. Kenneth Chapman Gallery until Thursday, December 3 and are open to all of the Iona Community and guests. This collection of artwork is certain not to disappoint and is a great illustration of what faculty members do outside of the classroom.
