CELTIC Wins Thanksgiving Basket Drive

The Center for Campus Ministries held its annual Thanksgiving basket drive for families in the surrounding community on November 24. Campus Ministries partnered with Greyston Youth and Children Services, Abraham House and Hope Community Services to distribute the collected food to those in need.

At the event, the baskets were blessed in a brief service and also judged by various administrators. 110 baskets were collected this year, surpassing last year’s participation. CELTIC was the overall winner and the department received a pizza party as their prize. Campus Ministries thanks everyone for their participation.

LAMPcafe

Volunteers Wanted
Administrators, faculty, staff, students, family members and friends are invited to serve the less fortunate through the LAMPcafé, a mobile canteen street outreach sponsored by LAMP Ministries, a Catholic lay missionary association located in Throgs Neck in the Bronx. It brings simple food to the hungry and homeless on the streets of the South Bronx. The LAMPcafé serves on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10:30 am – 1:00 pm, and Saturdays, 10:15 am – 12:30 pm. If anyone would like to volunteer once a month or even once, any and all assistance is welcome. Also, since all of the lunch food distributed to these less fortunate people is donated, volunteers are needed to make sandwiches (simple bread with a slice of cheese and two slices of meat). Please contact Malissa Scheuring-Leipold, EdD, at ext. 2553 for more information, or to donate snack foods or sandwiches.

Tuition Exchange Program
Iona College is a member of Tuition Exchange (TE), a program that provides an opportunity for eligible dependent children of active full-time employees to apply for undergraduate scholarships at participating member institutions. The TE program is a scholarship program, not a fringe benefit provided by Iona College. Certification for the TE program does not guarantee acceptance at a TE member institution or insure a TE scholarship. The number of TE scholarships available to us depends on the balance between imports and exports over time. Currently we have very few TE scholarships available to Iona employees. We need to attract students from TE member institutions to Iona College in order to provide more scholarship opportunities for dependent children of Iona employees. A list of member institutions is available at TE's web site, www.tuitionexchange.org. To request more information on the 2008-09 Tuition Exchange Program at Iona College, please contact Kathy Reilly in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, ext. 2439 or kreilly@iona.edu.

Mass Schedule
The last Sunday Mass on campus will be celebrated December 14 at 7:00 pm in the Arrigoni Center. It will be Father Jack Replogle’s last as Iona’s chaplain. Please join us on this third Sunday of Advent. A light reception for Father Jack will follow.
