Ten Iona Student Teams Place in Top 100 Global Ranking
Ten student teams in BUS 470 – Business Policy and Strategy taught by Jeffrey Alstete, EdD, Management and Business Administration, have earned a Top 100 global ranking for their performance in the GLO-BUS capstone business simulation during the Fall 2008 Semester.

GLO-BUS is a completely online global simulation published by McGraw-Hill/Irwin, where the focus is on competitive strategy, and teams of students run a digital camera company in head-to-head competition against companies run by other class members.

Company operations parallel those of actual digital camera companies. Just as in the real-world, companies compete in a global market arena, selling digital cameras in four geographic regions—Europe-Africa, North America, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America. Each week, the best-performing GLO-BUS companies measured on four performance variables (Overall Score, EPS, ROE, and Stock Price) are honored on the website.

During the most recent week there were 1,659 student teams from 98 colleges/universities participating in the simulation world-wide. The simulation will continue through the end of the Fall Semester.

The Registrar’s Office and Student Financial Services Have Merged.
As previously reported, the Registrar’s Office is now part of Student Financial Services. The decision was made to combine the offices to better serve the students. With the merger, students are now able to deal with their student account in one office instead of having to bounce back and forth between the two. The door to the Registrar’s Office has been closed and visitors are now encouraged to enter the office through SFS. If you have any questions about the merge, please feel free to contact Nancy Mills or Kelli Hudson and they will be more than happy to answer any of your questions.

LAMPcafe

Volunteers Wanted
Administrators, faculty, staff, students, family members and friends are invited to serve the less fortunate through the LAMPcafé, a mobile canteen street outreach sponsored by LAMP Ministries, a Catholic lay missionary association located in Throgs Neck in the Bronx. It brings simple food to the hungry and homeless on the streets of the South Bronx. The LAMPcafé serves on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10:30 am – 1:00 pm, and Saturdays, 10:15 am – 12:30 pm. If anyone would like to volunteer once a month or even once, any and all assistance is welcome. Also, since all of the lunch food distributed to these less fortunate people is donated, volunteers are needed to make sandwiches (simple bread with a slice of cheese and two slices of meat). Please contact Malissa Scheuring-Leipold, EdD, at ext. 2553 for more information, or to donate snack foods or sandwiches.

Tuition Exchange Program
Iona College is a member of Tuition Exchange (TE), a program that provides an opportunity for eligible dependent children of active full-time employees to apply for undergraduate scholarships at participating member institutions. The TE program is a scholarship program, not a fringe benefit provided by Iona College. Certification for the TE program does not guarantee acceptance at a TE member institution or insure a TE scholarship. The number of TE scholarships available to us depends on the balance between imports and exports over time. Currently we have very few TE scholarships available to Iona employees. We need to attract students from TE member institutions to Iona College in order to provide more scholarship opportunities for dependent children of Iona employees. A list of member institutions is available at TE's web site, www.tuitionexchange.org. To request more information on the 2008-09 Tuition Exchange Program at Iona College, please contact Kathy Reilly in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, ext. 2439 or kreilly@iona.edu.
