Iona Students Safely Escape House Fire in Off-Campus Housing
A Report From Charles Carlson, Vice Provost for Student Development:
There was a house fire at 36 Crosby Avenue this morning (9/2/09) that was reported to the department of security at 4:14 am. Nine Iona students reside at that location. All students exited the building without injury.
Fire Commissioner Kiernan informed Mr. Carlson that the fire was accidental and started in the second floor porch ceiling with faulty wiring. Michele Sampson, director of Off-Campus Housing will assist the students in locating alternative housing. Students and several parents were advised that we do have on campus housing available for the remainder of the year or on an emergency basis to transition our students through the next few days.
