Rudin/Driscoll Distinguished Visiting Professorship
at Iona College Will Feature World Renowned New York University Business
Professor
New Rochelle, NY, February 22, 2001 - William H. Starbuck, PhD, the
ITT Professor of Creative Management at the Stern School of Business
at New York University, will deliver a guest lecture titled "Elements
of Exceptional Success," on Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at 3:30 pm
in Joyce Auditorium on the Iona College campus, 715 North Avenue, New
Rochelle. This presentation is part of The Jack Rudin & John G. Driscoll
Distinguished Visiting Professorship, hosted by Iona's Hagan School of
Business. The address is free and open to the public. A reception will
follow in Arrigoni Center.
Dr. Starbuck has been the ITT Professor of Creative Management at the
Stern School of Business for the past 16 years. During this time he was
the director of the doctoral program for the Graduate School of Business
Administration at NYU, as well as a visiting professor at universities
around the world.
Dr. Starbuck's expertise in the business field is far reaching. He has
held faculty positions at Purdue University, Johns Hopkins University,
Cornell University and the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. He has
taught a variety of business courses including strategic forecasting,
advanced organizational design, business polity and multidisciplinary
perspectives in corporate strategy research.
Highly regarded and respected in his field, Dr. Starbuck has been a
recipient of fellowships from the American Psychological Association,
the Academy of Management, the American Psychological Society and the
British Academy of Management. He also received an honorary doctorate
in social science from the University of Stockholm in 1995.
A member of many editorial boards over the years, Starbuck currently
serves on the editorial boards of the Asian Case Research Journal, the
British Journal of Management, Information and Organization, the International
Journal of Management Reviews, the Journal of Leadership Studies, the
Journal of Management Inquiry, the Journal of Management Studies, the
Journal of Socioeconomics, Knowledge Management and Information Studies,
Organization and the Scandinavian Journal of Management.
Dr. Starbuck is the author of numerous articles on business issues,
and is the editor of four books including the Handbook of Organizational
Design, which was chosen as the best book on management published in
1982. He holds a master's and doctoral degree in Industrial Administration
from Carnegie Institute of Technology and a bachelor's degree in Physics
from Harvard University.
The Jack Rudin & John G. Driscoll Distinguished Visiting Professorship
at Iona College was established with a grant from Jack '86H and Susan
Rudin. Invitations are extended each year to outstanding scholars to
serve as visiting professors at Iona. Speaking of the Rudin/Driscoll
Visiting Professorship, President James A. Liguori, CFC, said, "Our
association with internationally recognized scholars provides an essential
opportunity for members of the Iona community to expand the horizons
of their own teaching, learning and research.
Past honorees have included Dr. Claire Gaudiani, president of Connecticut
College; Ralph Acampora '63, managing director, Prudential Securities;
Don Hewitt, executive producer of 60 Minutes; Susan Fisher, professor
of Sociology, Wesleyan Univeristy; Thomas Donaldson, professor of Business
Ethics, Georgetown University; James Kugel, professor of Hebrew Literature,
Harvard University; and Thomas J. Flanagan, distinguished professor of
English at SUNY Stonybrook.
