Iona College Celebrates Founders' Week

April 19 - 26th Set Aside in Honor of College's Founders

New Rochelle, NY, April 4, 2001 - Iona College's mission of "Justice, Peace and Service," will echo throughout the New Rochelle campus from Thursday, April 19 through Thursday, April 26, 2001, in celebration of Blessed Edmund Rice and the founders of Iona College.

Activities include a Hospitality Evening and Barbecue on Thursday, April 19, sponsored by the Christian Brothers and an Opening Liturgy at 7 pm on Sunday, April 22, featuring a Christian Brothers Vow renewal.

On Monday, April 23, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm returning adult and graduate students are invited to an interactive presentation on management and leadership entitled "The Characteristics of Effective Leadership," presented by Professor Brian Fernandez of Iona's Hagan School of Business. Michael Hovey, coordinator of Peace and Justice Education at the College, will synthesize the skills of effective leadership with the skills that were necessary to create Iona College 60 years ago.

The annual Loftus Dinner, by invitation only, will take place on Wednesday, April 25 in Arrigoni Center. The dinner will honor Brother Peter Anthony Costa who has developed, during his year as a Loftus Scholar, a project that focuses on a Family/School Community Collaboration used to develop an optimum environment for learning.

Concluding the week's activities on Thursday, April 26, is the College's annual carnival that takes place from 12 noon to 4 pm in front of Spellman Hall. Games, rides, food and music are the order of the day.
