Iona College Celebrates Founders' Week
April 19 - 26th Set Aside in Honor of College's Founders
New Rochelle, NY, April 4, 2001 - Iona College's mission of "Justice,
Peace and Service," will echo throughout the New Rochelle campus
from Thursday, April 19 through Thursday, April 26, 2001, in celebration
of Blessed Edmund Rice and the founders of Iona College.
Activities include a Hospitality Evening and Barbecue on Thursday, April
19, sponsored by the Christian Brothers and an Opening Liturgy at 7 pm
on Sunday, April 22, featuring a Christian Brothers Vow renewal.
On Monday, April 23, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm returning adult and graduate
students are invited to an interactive presentation on management and
leadership entitled "The Characteristics of Effective Leadership," presented
by Professor Brian Fernandez of Iona's Hagan School of Business. Michael
Hovey, coordinator of Peace and Justice Education at the College, will
synthesize the skills of effective leadership with the skills that were
necessary to create Iona College 60 years ago.
The annual Loftus Dinner, by invitation only, will take place on Wednesday,
April 25 in Arrigoni Center. The dinner will honor Brother Peter Anthony
Costa who has developed, during his year as a Loftus Scholar, a project
that focuses on a Family/School Community Collaboration used to develop
an optimum environment for learning.
Concluding the week's activities on Thursday, April 26, is the College's
annual carnival that takes place from 12 noon to 4 pm in front of Spellman
Hall. Games, rides, food and music are the order of the day.
